After spending many Trailblaze Power refills and more simulated battles than I care to count, I can confidently say Huohuo has become my favorite sustain unit in Honkai: Star Rail. She is a five-star Wind Abundance character who looks like she might faint at any moment, yet her little heliobus tail keeps her—and the whole team—on track. The main draw is her Ultimate: it restores Energy to all allies and gives a meaningful ATK buff. The trade-off is that she consumes Skill Points fairly often, since her Skill heals and cleanses while keeping her Talent active. Honestly, if you ignore her team building, she can feel like a tiny SP vacuum cleaner. Choose the right partners though, and she turns into the quiet heart of a relentless machine.
7. Clara
Clara is a Physical Destruction character who takes hits on purpose, and I mean that in the nicest way. She wants enemies to target her or her allies because Svarog answers with a follow-up counter. Huohuo's healing makes all that incoming damage feel like a minor inconvenience rather than a crisis. On top of that, Huohuo's Ultimate feeds Clara Energy, which means Clara can activate her enhanced counter stance more often. The result is a survival loop that feels almost unfair: Clara gets hit, Huohuo heals her, and Svarog just keeps swinging.
6. Kafka
Kafka is one of those DPS picks that does not care about Crit stats, and let's be real, that is refreshing. Her damage comes from Shock and other damage-over-time effects, which scale directly with ATK. Whenever Huohuo uses her Ultimate, Kafka's DoTs get nastier because the ATK buff boosts every tick. The Energy restoration also helps Kafka keep her own Ultimate available, so enemies never get a chance to breathe. If you enjoy watching a battlefield slowly melt while your healer cheers everyone on, Kafka and Huohuo are a match made in Nihility heaven.
5. Topaz & Numby
Topaz and her warp trotter friend Numby are a Hunt pair built around follow-up attacks and marked enemies. The beauty here is that Topaz is Skill Point-positive, which helps offset Huohuo's constant need for Skill Points. While Huohuo keeps the team alive, Topaz marks a target so every follow-up attack lands harder. The ATK buff from Huohuo's Ultimate also boosts Topaz's own damage and Numby's frequent advances. They are like a well-oiled Luofu business deal: Topaz brings the profit, and Huohuo makes sure nobody collapses before the payout.
4. Dan Heng
Dan Heng might seem simple at first, but he is the Wind DPS who clicked with Huohuo when the Penacony, Land of the Dreams Ornament set arrived. That set gives Huohuo extra Energy Regeneration and, when an ally shares her Wind type, it buffs their damage too. Dan Heng already boosts his own SPD and Wind PEN, so Huohuo's ATK and DMG support turn him into a fast, hard-hitting duelist. No joke, a well-timed Ultimate from Huohuo can let Dan Heng chain his own burst before the enemy finishes recovering from the last one.
3. Tingyun
Tingyun is a Harmony buffer who asks the question: what if Huohuo's ATK and Energy support could be multiplied? Tingyun grants even more ATK, DMG, and Energy to one ally, so combining her with Huohuo makes a hypercarry absolutely monstrous. Huohuo's team-wide Energy regeneration also speeds up Tingyun's own Ultimate, which means faster batteries for the main DPS. It becomes a hilarious cycle of buffing, healing, and recharging where your carry never wants for anything. Just be ready to manage Skill Points, because both ladies love to be active.
2. Jingliu
Jingliu is an Ice Destruction powerhouse who, when played well, barely touches your Skill Point economy. That matters a lot because Huohuo is not shy about using her Skill every second turn. With Huohuo on the team, Jingliu gains more frequent Ultimates, which helps her stay in Spectral Transmigration longer and keeps her enhanced attacks rolling. The two of them cover each other perfectly: Jingliu spends less SP while dealing absurd damage, and Huohuo spends a little more SP while keeping Jingliu vertical. It is one of my favorite partnerships for longer fights.
1. Guinaifen
Guinaifen earns the top spot because she works as a miniature Kafka and a debuffer all at once. Her Skill applies Burn, her Ultimate triggers DoT effects, and her Firekiss state increases the damage enemies take. If you build her as a secondary DPS, Huohuo's ATK buff pumps up her Burn damage significantly. Even if you run her as a support, Huohuo's Energy regeneration helps Guinaifen keep Firekiss on the field. She is cheerful, loud, and a little chaotic—perfect company for a healer who sometimes needs someone else to shout confidently at the enemy.
All told, Huohuo rewards careful team building more than most sustains. She brings healing, cleansing, ATK, and Energy, but asks you to respect her Skill Point rhythm. Pick teammates who either generate SP, buff further, or love ATK and Energy, and she will make your team feel nearly unkillable.
